Use this thread to do these things:

1. First... reflect on our session from Monday night. What impacted you most? What did you learn? What will you never forget? What surprised you? What was the most valuable thing you gained from the session?

2. Second... post questions you have about any specific issue pertaining to seafood resources. Is there something specific you need clarification about?

3. Third... post resources you find as you dig deeper into your topic. Chances are, someone else can make direct use of the site you find. And really- this will also help to increase all of our general knowledge of this crucial set of issues.

4. Fourth... post questions/suggestions/images about your display setup for the night of the 26th. The more we show what we are doing here, in a digital format, the more smoothly our work will be when we come together again face to face.

5. Fifth... post any marketing ideas you have for the public screening of The End of The Line on October 26th. How can we get the word out to more people? How can we maximize our time with people from 6 to 9pm that night?

6. Sixth? Well... use the space for what you need it for. Let's all dig in... time is limited.

I thought Monday night was one of the best meetings we have had so far. Even though I don't eat seafood, it still make an impact on me. When I go out to resataunts now, and someone orders seafood, I'm just gonna pull out that handy chart & tell them what they should order ;) Anyways, everyone I've seen since our meeting I have to make sure they come to the screening. The movie truley looks amazing. I'm pupmed to watch it this upcoming Monday.

Kody & I are doing the Green fish. Were pretty stoked, we went & got a board and some supplies for our setup yesterday. We have some pretty big ideas (as you know if you have seen my Tweets) I really hope our board impacts people so that they make the better choice when it comes to choosing seafood.

I was thinking since maybe we could market the movie and our displays more. Maybe we could see if www.thestjoechannel.com would do anything for us..? If we made a flyer (like Jessica's post said) we could see if they would let us maybe put it on their website. Just a thought. If I think of anymore ideas I'll be sure & post.

I'll definitly keep you updated on our board and presentation. I'll try to post pic's and links as we begin.

The meeting monday night in my opinion was interesting, it had an impact on me of what is a good idea of dinner and what isn't. I only liked how we switched subjects so abruptly, one class we were learning tides, currents, bulges, etc then the next we are learning about different endangered fish. Yes there was a curve in the class, but I would of liked to finish talking about that subject then move on because our notes only had one page of notes left dealing with hurricanes, tropical storms, and all that stuff (I hope this doesn't start complaint or debate). What surprised me most was the Salmon, I had no idea that was a very healthy food to eat, I thought all fish were healthy for people but not THAT healthy! The most valuable thing I learned is that now learning about all the good and bad things to eat, I am definitely going to watch it and be good to the environment and save the fish!

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of something that pertains to seafood resources but if I do have a question I will be sure to ask.

I don't have any research, pictures, videos or anything at this point, I have only thought about design but I will be doing research and getting pictures ASAP. I believe Carsen and I's will be pretty amazing though the design in our head could turn out something different once we start putting our thoughts down.

Truly, I do not have any idea what to do to spread word out to attract people. I would just do traditional flyers (SP?) E-Mail, verbal communication, phone, etc. I think that would be the easiest idea but that is just my opinion.

One thing I will never forget from Monday night is the overall impact we are having on marine species just by fishing for them. I really had no idea that some of the fish that we eat all the time are in danger of being over fished. I really am so glad that we got to learn about this because I will definitely take it into consideration the next time I go to a restaurant to order seafood. My dad is big on eating healthily, and he loves salmon. So I’ve already told my mom not to buy farmed salmon for him anymore and she agreed. :)
So far all the only resources I have used is the blue ocean institute site, some other random sites, and my sister. One of the sites that I found the most useful when looking for bycatch facts is the Monterey bay aquarium site.
On Monday, Jessica and I were discussing what we were going to do with our display and we said lots of pictures and maybe the most important facts displayed actually on the board. Then maybe we could make packets of information that we could either pass out or just set on a table for people to flip through. And we also decided we wanted a laptop to be playing a video on bycatch. (I thought I could make another animoto video for that.)
I think that if we can convince at least some of the science teachers at the 3 schools to participate in this and show the trailer for the movie in their classes we could get a lot of students involved. This may seem like bribing, but maybe some of the teachers could offer extra credit for those who attend? Students may just go to raise a grade, but the video might impact them in the process… This is just a thought.

Also, I have a quick question. In this picture, is this considered a tide pool? I am confused because it is not in an enclosed pool but it still has to go through the different levels of high-tide and low-tide.

Apparent inverted trophic pyramid... apparent. It really cannot be inverted. In fact, this is related to the Law of Conservation of Mass/Energy.

Lungs are good at extracting oxygen from dry air. Gills are efficient only when wet. Therefore, the paradox is most easily solved with regard to marine critters by finding a way to keep their gills wet during periods of drying. Make sense?
