This is a song I wrote and I'm kinda pleased with how it turned out.
Let me know what you think.
There she lies standing alone
Wondering which way to go.
I pass by her not even thinking
For her I did not know.
She turns to me and with a grin
Speaks quite lavishly.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
This made me wonder
And each day I wondered even more
About this beautiful woman
I've never seen around here before.
Those words fill my head
Like a songbird's melody.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
Not a word was spoken
Though I was oh so involved.
For her beauty and her words
Were together left unresolved.
I looked into her eyes
They were the color of the sea.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
My lady is like a dove
At my window with a broken wing.
If love could talk
Ours wouldn't, it would sing.
Turn off the light baby,
Rest your head, and let it be.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
As I look down the aisle
I see her standing there
With a white dress on
And flowers in her hair.
She said her vows nice and clear
For everyone to see.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
On the way home
My eyes must have been crossed
For I found myself alone
All alone, torn and lost.
I turned around to find
The other half of me.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
We live together
With three children playing on the ranch
Dogs running through the yard
And a tire hanging from the tree branch.
The country side stretches out
As far as the eye can see.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
But now I'm far away
Far away from my home.
I was told I'd be shot
If I would dare to roam.
They dressed me in fatigue
And sent me over the sea.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
As I lie in my tent at night
I look at a picture of my wife.
I can't wait to return home
To start a whole new life.
But for now
I'll have to wait oh so patiently.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
Now the battlefield is raging
And our troops are falling apart.
I turn around and was greeted
By a pinch through the heart.
Blood filled my hand
As I fell onto my knee.
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
Now as I lay down
Seconds away from death
I gaze upon my wife's picture
And to the comrade I said with one last breath,
"Send my love home
To my family."
"I'll be here," she said,
"If you come back for me."
Now I'm in a place
Far above the stars.
God made me immortal
And he healed all my scar's.
And if you ever wonder
Just where I may be
I'll be here, babe,
When you come up with me.
