Seaweed is slimy and gross. I can't stand it touching my skin let alone putting it in my mouth! Apparently people eat seaweed. I know I have when eating sushi but never really thought anything about it. There are a lot of
diet fads going around these days. One of them includes eating seaweed. A lot of seaweed. People think it is good for them because it is a plant. Also, they use it to replace salt in their diets.
Sadly, seaweed isn't a good nutrient for humans. The saltiness of the plant is harmful to humans. It causes high blood pressure and is full of sodium. Plus, it isn't for vegetarians as it is believed. The way seaweed eats and is processed causes particles of fish to be found in seaweed.
Oh yea...IT'S CONTAMINATED!!! The algae purifies the ocean. Everything that we dump is filtered through seaweed. Seaweed is known to contain toxic material, heavy metals, and your everyday crap that gets dumped into the ocean. Sure, seaweed is sometimes checked for this. However, seaweed should not be consumed regularly.
Did you know there is such a thing as seaweed addiction? I guess the saltiness and chewiness of the seaweed is appealing to some people. If people knew about the dangers of seaweed, maybe they wouldn't get addicted. Haha. Probably not. I bet they are the same people who smoke and do drugs.
I really hope I didn't deter anyone from seaweed too bad. Seaweed is okay once in while and in small amounts. Just be careful and don't use seaweed as a supplement in your diet.
